Jean Caffeine plays a punky blend of pop, folkn’ roots. A singer songwriter and band front person, Jean has kicked out the jams in more than one continent. At home in S.F. coffee house, Texas roadhouses and in the Foreign Press club in Phonem Phne, Cambodia, she’s played fests such as NXNE in Canada, BID in Germany and the SXSW and CMJ in the US.
Caffeine has had more lives than a cat. She drummed for 70’s SF all girl band the Urge and NYC 15-minutes-of-famers Pulsallama, who were known for chanting, cardboard props and rhythmic cacophony. They opend for The Clash, had their picture in Interview Magazine, and got kicked off a bill with PIL Ltd. Jean went on to front her own y’allterative country band, Jean Caffeine’s Al Nite Truckstop, out of Austin, Tx in the 90s.
“If Austin had (has) an answer to Chrissie Hynde, it’s Jean and her mature punk snarl. Of course as a songtime Texan, there’s a solid rootsiness to her terrific songcraft, but then she was always a Stones freak…” Austin Chronicle
“Miss I-was-alternative-country before-alternative-country-was cool.” Dallas Observer
“A cross between Brenda Lee and Patti Smith.” Austin American Statesmen
“Austin’s cowpunk goddess unleashes a seething, soulful catharsis of a rock ‘n’ roll album!”
No cover charge….but please don’t hesitate to fill the “tip jar,”
She really deserves it!
