Doors 4:00pm • 8:00pm

PHOEBE LEGERE!

Phoebe: It is easy to get lost in the sheer beauty of Phoebe Legere’s shamanic voice. Her pianism runs the gamut from Harlem stride, to modal improvisations to rollicking New Orleans jazz and blues. Phoebe straps on her accordion, delivering authentic Cajun Joyfulness.   “I love to bring people together. I love to see them dance and smile.”     At Abilene Phoebe will be singing songs from her upcoming album Squeeze Me…Phoebe says, “These are songs about how we live now”: from ‘Texting in the Dark’  to ‘Crazy White Trash,’ and her first radio hit “Marilyn Monroe” to her  recent roots radio top-20 song about a lady truck driver (Heart of Love).  This is a rare opportunity to experience Phoebe’s intellectual, comedic and musical range in an intimate environment. Phoebe is an accomplished blues guitar player, and she also plays many traditional instruments from Donkey Skull and Aztec Death Whistle, to Spoons and Native American flute. Phoebe will be joined by local hero, Washboard Dave Paprocki. Phoebe is known for transcendent jams that blend jazz, blues, Zydeco, Native American medicine chants into a spicy, spiritual gumbo. All proceeds from the show go to Phoebe’s nonprofit Foundation for New American Art, a 501 c3 organization founded that brings Art and Music to the children of low-income communities.
