Smugtown Garage

Smugtown Garage is celebrating 00’s garage revival in the Flour City playing vovers of The White Stripes, The Black Keys, The Strokes, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, along with plenty of nods to the original garage rock and proto punk of The Kinks, The Stooges, and The Ramones. Always energetic in their presentation, the band features a versatile lineup with multiple vocalists and an array of sounds, from a twin guitar attack to a new wave synth.

The band formed in 2024 when John, a failed pastry chef and rhythm guitarist of longtime Rochester instrumentalists, The Isotopes, heard the “Nuggets” compilation too many times. He soon realized the band would require other members and met bassist Jimmy, a veteran of North Carolina pub bands on the run from the law. They then abducted Brian, a drummer and spiritual advisor from parts unknow. Vocalist and riverboat gambler Abby of Bug Jar favorites, Safety Break soon joined and the line-up was rounded out by Scott, a multi-instrumentalist and chocholic.

Smugtown Garage demonstrate a love of the past and present of the genre, often including recent hits like “S.O.B,” or dipping into a 60’s blues rocker by The Paul Butterfield Blues Band to fill the dance floor or slip in a few guitar solos. Songs by The Beatles, Raconteurs, Kings of Leon, or Monkees, often make an appearance as well.
