Katie Morey & Band

After a year-long performance hiatus, Rochester-born songwriter Katie Morey is stepping back into the spotlight with a full-band performance that celebrates both her musical evolution and deep roots in the local scene.

Known for her dynamic songwriting and genre-spanning projects, Morey has performed under a variety of pseudonyms over the years, including Pleistocene (Punk), Paul’s Grandfather, (Folk) The Eyes (Alt Country), and Sibling (Rock). Now, she returns to performing under her own name, bringing together years of creative exploration into a singular sound.

In addition to her work as a songwriter, singer, guitarist, and pianist, Morey is the co-owner and founder of the Submarine School of Music, where she is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of musicians. One of her standout students, Lenora Kelley, has quickly emerged as a rising talent in her own right. Kelley will open the show, marking a special moment that highlights both mentorship and musical collaboration.

The two have co-written numerous songs together and will debut a brand-new single at the performance. Titled “Cowboy Shit,” the track draws inspiration from an unfiltered moment in the classroom when a six-year-old Submarine School student enthusiastically described their jangly chord progressions and cactus-themed lyrics as exactly that: “cowboy shit.” The phrase stuck, capturing a spirit of playful authenticity that defines the song.

This upcoming performance promises an evening of heartfelt songwriting, community connection, and a celebration of both seasoned artistry and emerging voices.
