"A Modern Marriage: A Disco Rock-Opera," with Special Guest, Gary Lamaar

  • Abilene Bar & Lounge 153 Liberty Pole Way Rochester, NY, 14604 United States (map)

Doors 7pm, Music 8pm

A Modern Marriage: A Disco Rock-Opera is a Rochester supergroup comprised of the members of Public Water Supply, Briana Horton and Abby Celso of The Swooners, and is written by Kris Schramm (Señor Jefe, Stars Malign, K Robin Guitars).

This concept -inspired by Millie Jackson’s Caught-up - tells the story of a married couple facing the midlife, marital doldrums, and ultimately finding their way back to each other. The songs flow like a series of conversations between the husband and wife, and will feel semi-autobiographical to anyone who has been in a long-term relationship - especially those married with kids. Like drawing 'The Lovers' from the Tarot deck, A Modern Marriage touches on ideas of love and frustration, doubt and commitment; all against the backdrop of high energy, dance-funk, disco-pop music, inspired by contemporary artists such as Remi Wolf, Joywave, and Magdalena Bay, as well as giants of the classic era like Parliament, Donna Summer, Prince, and Ann Peebles.

A Modern Marriage: A Disco Rock Opera will be performed at Abilene Bar & Lounge on Saturday, May 2nd, with special guest Gary Lamaar. If you like disco music or like to go out dancing, if you want to hear two powerful women vocalists wailing like angels, or if you want to see a band of straight-up music assassins burn a building down, then this is a show you do not want to miss.
