David Bennett Cohen – Artist Bio

David Bennett Cohen is a pianist, keyboardist, guitarist, composer, and educator whose remarkable career spans more than six decades. Best known as the innovative keyboard player and founding member of the legendary 1960s rock band Country Joe and the Fish, he helped shape the band's signature psychedelic blues sound and performed during one of rock's most influential eras.

A classically trained pianist who fell in love with boogie-woogie and the blues as a teenager, Cohen developed a distinctive style rooted in blues, rock, folk, and American roots music. Throughout his career, he has performed and recorded with an extraordinary range of artists, including Janis Joplin, The Blues Project, Mick Taylor, Michael Bloomfield, Hubert Sumlin, Johnny Winter, Bob Weir, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Miles, and many others.

As a solo artist, Cohen has shared the stage with performers such as Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Garcia, Richard Thompson, Leo Kottke, Booker T., and Country Joe McDonald. His acclaimed recordings—including Cookin' With Cohen, In the Pocket, David Bennett Cohen at the Piano, and Bittersweet—showcase his mastery of blues and roots piano, while his instructional books and videos have inspired generations of musicians.
